Gert and Eddie's Astronaut Training Gertie and Eddie were studying their history books when they read about the early space race, and how the Russians had sent a dog into space in the "Muttnik" They were so excited to discover that animals can enjoy the benefits of space travel that they immediately applied to the NASA Space Program. They learned that the requirements for astronaut training are tough. Among other things an astronaut must contend with is the spinning motion that comes from being in orbit and the terrible G-forces encountered during rocket take-off. To train for this, they go for rides in a machine called a Centrifuge. This training helps them get used to G-forces, but probably doesn't help much with the 'dizzy factor'. Gertie and Eddie were accepted into the NASA Astronaut program, but they were soon expelled for illegally using the NASA Director's office chair as a centrifuge.
