The Gert and Eddie
Mewsical Contest
!

We Have a Winner!!
The Internet Community,
and Clyde,
Have Chosen!!

The Hair Apparent to Clyde Big Paws'
Mewsical talent is:

GERTRUDE AND EDDIE
They'll work on mewsic together!
(If they can stop fighitng, that is.)

Clyde's Decision (read all about it)

The mewsic Clyde sent us is remarkable. It has the characteristic BIG Clyde Big Paws sound. That's how we know it came from him! And, it features mewsical arrangements from his new spirit friends on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, the Rainbow Orchestra and Chorus! Obviously, from the tone of the mewsic and its busy activity, this was not an easy decision for them to make. (We do appreciate their efforts, don't we?)

The mewsic starts off with a BANG, to illustrate the competitive nature of the kittens. But, harmony is what is needed. For without harmony, mewsic is chaos.

So, the celestial Rainbow Orchestra and Chorus come in to calm things down and call for harmony.

Clyde, playing his favorite instrument, the harpsichord, underlines the mewsic while the Rainbow Orchestra and Chorus quote from Gert's tune, "
The Kitten". The running notes of the harpsichord remind us of the switching tail of a cat deep in thought.

The competition theme returns, the Rainbow Orchestra and Chorus once more call for harmony, and we hear a quote from Eddie's tune, "
Prelude in D", underlined by the notes of the persistent harpsichord. Clyde is deep in thought! And, here, we hear the secret of the mewsic, for they are calling for harmony that is always there, if we can just listen for it!

More and more the competition notes play, and the choir and orchestra together call for harmony while Clyde runs all over the place with his harpsichord. Their eerie, celestial tones give their sirens' call for peace out of conflict, the harmony that comes from working together!

This harmony can only be achieved one way.

The kittens BOTH win and must cooperate with each other to create music that not only reflects the nature of Clyde's MIDI Tunes, but that suprasses it. They must carry the baton forward for Clyde into the infinite future!
The Rainbow Orchestra and Chorus call for peace and harmony out of conflict. The happy notes at the end of the mewsic indicate the spirits' confidence that this will be so.

We thank them for their wise counsel. It makes purrfect sense.

Hear Clyde's Engima again?

Many of you thought the same thing!

Many folks not only took the time to vote, but also gave thoughtful reviews of the mewsic. In so many cases, folks thought BOTH compositions were worthy of Clyde. These nice reviews of the two compositions are helping to inspire future works by Clyde's Hair Apparents, the "Dynamic Duet". Below are the actual reviews as they came in by e-mail, side by side, in a nice Internet table format for you to enjoy.

GERTRUDE

The Kitten

I voted for Gertie, here's why:

This wonderfurr mewsic has made my meowmie and I feel young and happy. It is so very upbeat and touches a feeling inside of better! happy times. The mewsic commands your attention and keeps it. :)

-----------------------------

The mewsic sounds like it belongs to royalty and! after all! cats are royalty.

-----------------------------

It makes me think of kittens chasing butterflies.

-----------------------------

It sounded more up beat and like a kitten about to come up with a plan to attack the family dinner.

-----------------------------

Gertrude is remarkably talented fur such a young purrson! Her style is reminiscent of Bach or Handel (or both)! and her execution of the work is slightly less than phenomenal! I do believe you will have another Mozart (or Miss Mozart) on your hands if she does not lose this ability to both compose and purrfurm before she reaches cathood. My vote is decidedly fur Gertrude!

-----------------------------

Because she's a gerl! And because I like the sprightly happy sound of her mewsic...today. I'll think about it again tomorrow.

-----------------------------

I could just picture a kitten as I listened to Gertie's song. Besides! we girls have to stick together! don't we? I didn't care for Eddie's attitude either! :)

-----------------------------

I enjoyed the song! Like Her Highness Claudie! it reminded me of a kitten. Plus! she-- Claudie-- demanded that I vote this way!

-----------------------------

It makes us feel good! Gert's tune brings visions of Lords and Ladies dancing.

-----------------------------

My cat! Smudge! listened to both compositions carefully. When Gertie's played! Smudge jumped up from her comfortable position under a table and came over to the computer to better appreciate the mewsic. When Eddie's played! Smudge went to sleep.

-----------------------------

Very reminiscent of 16th century folk music which I like! the music builds up nicely.

-----------------------------

This is a very grand effort for one so young. I see great things in her future!! Bravo Gertie!!

-----------------------------

It was bouncy and fun! but it had a very classic style to it. The background pipes were very clever. (Also--sorry! Eddie--the pipes on his midi were a trifle annoying.)

-----------------------------

Her work is lovely and cheerful - it really does sound like a kitten at play.

-----------------------------

While Eddie's submission is excellent! longer and more complex I must cast my vote for Gertie. Her piece reminds me of something played originally on Elizabethan virginals. As I am a sucker for Tudor history and can name all six wives of Henry VIII (file under useless information unless playing Trivial Pursuit) Gertrude gets the nod... BRAVA:<)

-----------------------------

The lilting sounds of Gertie's joyful tune surely captures the essence of Clyde's early mewsic. Although "The Kitten" is a short song! it's memorable. We've been purring it ever since the first time we heard it!

-----------------------------

Gertie has created a beautifur and
well-rounded composiition which is a
pleasure to listen to. It reminds of me of
the more delicate side of Clyde Big
Paws! which is heard in movement 2 of his symphony as well as other compositions.

EDWARD

Eddie's Prelude in D

I voted for Eddie, here's why:

Eddie has his own unique style. It is not Clyde but it is not not Clyde. I enjoyed it very much.

-----------------------------

Wow! I know I just voted for Gertie! but this mewsic has moved me! too! I love the flute like sounds! and the handbell quality also! I can't say for sure! but I believe the Kittens can work the two peices together! and make a true Clyde Masterpiece! I know I am not being much help deciding! but I really think the two Kittens together deserve the title! because they both are wonderful. At a much needed time of feeling good in Meowmies life! these peices have worked wonders for her. PS I liked the original title ("I'm Better Than Gert") better! hehehehehehe.

-----------------------------

Because his tune reminds me of a lullaby from my kittenhood. Purrrrrrrrrrrrr!

-----------------------------

I thought Eddie's composition was more stately! and Clyde's mewsic is very stately!

-----------------------------

We love this meowsic!!!

-----------------------------

When I first listened to Gertie's piece! I thought it must be the spirit of Clyde! to compose such a lovely piece of music so much like the beautiful music of the court (I can pictures the lovely dancers bowing and courtseying)! but after hearing Eddie's piece I must truly say that (even though the spirit dwells strongly in Gertrude) the strong masculine spirit of Clyde Big Paws has transferred its creative genius to the spirit of Eddie! even if it took a strong creative burst of musical jelousy (must look up the spelling) to make the ultimate transfer. I MUST SAY THAT EDDIE HAS MY VOTE TODAY! PAWS DOWN. When next I listen I shall bring my babies in to listen with me and get their opinion. They are now in hiding as the monster vacuum has been tearing its way around the house.

-----------------------------

Relaxing to listen to.

-----------------------------

I doan noe mutch abowt mewsik! butt I lyke dis peace becaws it is sloe an easey! lyke mee. It wud be gud two eet diner bye! or eefun too napp two. Gertys peace is to fast an maiks me nerfuss. Ennywae! I voat fur Edie.

-----------------------------

Eddie's effort is better by far! I don't CARE what HRH Claudie or Mark think! I don't care if Queen Claudie DOES punish me either; I vote fur Eddie!!!!!!

-----------------------------

Absolutely beautiful!! I am looking forward to the record deal that will surely come soon. This was a ray of sunshine on a grey cloudy day!!

-----------------------------

I believe I'm hearing the flute and piano which are my two favourite instruments. I don't know if IE4.01 has anything to do with that! Thank you for the nice music of both your babies.

-----------------------------

I was a young kat once!! (Tom) that is.

-----------------------------

His work is thought provoking and inspiring. I felt very emotional.

-----------------------------

Please forward the following message to Eddie:
I really love your mewsic! It sounds like Clyde himself made it. I really! really! really! really! really! really vote for you!

-----------------------------

My preference is for males. If I'm a lion, I'm a lion. And besides! lionesses have no use for males but for their protection. So my vote turns to the male.
Thank you for your kind indulgence.

-----------------------------

While we listened to Eddie's composition! we felt that Clyde's spirit was guiding his paws on the keyboard! We think Eddie's musical talent is exceptional and that he should be encouraged to purrsue it!

-----------------------------

I like Eddie's composition because it is furry much like much of Clyde's works. It is a "complete" composition! having a good beginning! bridge and coda. It is also pleasant to hear.

Thanks to everyone for playing in
the Gert and Eddie Contest.
Now, go out and celebrate Novemberfest!
Happy Times to ALL
