COUNT
MY TEXT!
Document
Management Word Counter and Optimizer for Forum and Blog Entries!
Optimize
forum and blog profiles and entries easily with unique document management
word counter COUNT MY TEXT! It makes posting so much easier!
This page will show you how COUNT
MY TEXT! can help you write forum and blog entries that fit within
character limits. While many forums and blog sites specify character limits
and may even count your text as you enter it, you can get confused, mis-format
and encounter display problems if your text is not properly prepared.
Knowing WHAT
to do for good forum and blog entries is one step, doing it correctly
is equally important! This is where COUNT MY TEXT! can help!
Note:
COUNT MY TEXT! is not a word processor. It does not contain a spell
or grammar checker. It is a character and word counter and optimizer. It
provides character information and helps remove mistakes that a word processor
may miss. As such it can be a valuable tool for document management and other
text formatting needs.
Forum
and Blog Profiles:
Most forum and blog sites allow
you to create a profile - a section that tells others about you. While many
of these are personal, they can also be used for a business that is posting
to the site (if the site allows this).
Profile allowances are different
on different sites, but most limit the amount of text you can provide in
different areas. When this is the case, they may indicate the character limits
for an "input text box" and some may even count and display the
number of characters used, or tell you how many are left.
Some allow the inclusion of
HTML codes for formatting, or may use special control codes for this purpose. The
codes are included in the character limits.
While you can enter the information
directly into the "input text box" on-line, when inputting text
this way, it is easy to make mistakes and put in extra spaces and make typographical
errors.
It is more effective to write
your text in a word processor (to spell check it - not all sites have a spell
checker - or one that is easy to use) and then use COUNT MY TEXT! to
do an accurate character count and optimization. SEO (search engine optimization)
counts here as much as it does on a Web site. Be sure and place important
keywords and keyphrases in your text.
COUNT MY TEXT!'s
OPTIMIZE feature will strip out redundant spaces and remove trailing line
feeds from the copied text. A word processor may sometimes include a trailing
line feed, which is not needed in Forum or Blog profile entries - it just
wastes space. This can save you making a costly mistake!
The only issue that may be
a concern is if you decide to use HTML or other code in your entry. In this
case, these codes must be included in the character count you do, because
the site will include them in its own character count.
Since space is at a premium,
you want to make every word - and space - count.
COUNT
MY TEXT! optimizes text and removes
extra spaces between words and after periods; you can be sure you are maximizing
the use of the space provided.
COUNT
MY TEXT! goes further. If you are inserting line feeds for appearance
sake, COUNT MY TEXT! preserves them, but includes them in
the character count (since most input text boxes count them as well).
Note:
COUNT MY TEXT! is not a word processor. It does not contain a spell
or grammar checker. It is a character and word counter and optimizer. It
provides character information and helps remove mistakes that a word processor
may miss. As such it can be a valuable tool for document management and other
text formatting needs.

Forum
and Blog Entries:
A Forum entry - a posting -
is usually a message typed "on the fly". But people will read this
and it makes sense to prepare it off line in a word processor, then check
it with COUNT
MY TEXT! to
make it look good. This is especially important if you want people to visit
your Web site, because if it looks good in the forum entry, people will take
it seriously. Most forum entries do not have character limits, but some do
allow the use of some HTML or other codes for formatting.
A Blog entry is a little essay.
Many blogs limit the number of characters in an "input text box",
but allow multiple "input text boxes" to build your blog. HubPages
is one such site, Squidoo is another. In fact, some even "grade" your
entry on the number of "text modules" you create (a minimum
of four is often recommended). SEO (search engine optimization) counts here
as much as it does on a Web site. Be sure and place important keywords and
keyphrases in your text.
COUNT MY TEXT!'s
OPTIMIZE feature will strip out redundant spaces and remove trailing line
feeds from the copied text. A word processor may sometimes include a trailing
line feed, which is not needed in Forum or Blog entries - they just
waste space. The forum or blog site usually formats paragraphs itself by
text blocks.
You can follow the same principles
for inputting text here as you used for the profile entries (see above).

How
to Use COUNT MY TEXT! for a forum or blog entry of any kind where a character
limit is imposed:
Create your profile off line,
using a word processor. Spell and grammar check the work.
-
Copy the text from your word
processor and paste it into COUNT MY TEXT! Perform a character
count and optimize if necessary. Check the count results against what is
allowed by the Forum or Blog limits (if specified). If you have too much
text, you can edit it directly in COUNT MY TEXT! and re-count.
-
Copy your text from COUNT
MY TEXT! and paste it into the site's input text box.
-
Preview your submission.
Note where you might want to add some HTML or other code for bolding, italicizing,
etc.
- Return to COUNT MY
TEXT! and insert the codes you'll need in your text. Perform a character
count and optimize if necessary. Check the count results against what is
allowed by the Forum or Blog limits (if specified). You need to do this because
the site will include all codes as part of the character count. If you are
over limit, you'll have to edit your text, since you need the codes you inserted
for formatting.
Example:
This is a line of
text that I want bolded in MyForum.
Count with spaces = 53
(The codes are <b> and </b> for
bolding, so I must include them in my submission.)
<b>This is a line of
text that I want bolded in MyForum.</b>
Count with spaces = 60
The codes for bolding added
to the character usage.!
-
Select all the previous text
in the input text box and delete it. Copy your text (with codes) from COUNT
MY TEXT! and paste it into the text box.
-
Preview your submission. It
should now appear completely with no truncation.
COUNT
MY TEXT! is an effective document management tool for use with Forum
and Blog sites because it will help you prepare text for them effectively.
It preserves line feeds for paragraph spacing, yet eliminates unnecessary
extra spaces that would waste valuable character counts.
Note:
COUNT MY TEXT! is not a word processor. It does not contain a spell
or grammar checker. It is a character and word counter and optimizer. It
provides character information and helps remove mistakes that a word processor
may miss. As such it can be a valuable tool for document management and other
text formatting needs.
