A social networking site comment
is usually a message typed "on
the fly". It can be a response to a blog entry or to a video (as on
the YouTube site). Some sites limit the characters allowed, and this can
prevent you from saying everything you need to say. Here's a little story:
We wanted to post a comment
to someone's video on YouTube. The author of the video was demonstrating
a tape recorder and expressing a problem he needed to solve with a
noisy motor. We did not know that YouTube limits a comment to 500 characters.
So we typed in our comment and hit the "Post button" only to get
an error message which THEN told us about the character limit.
We copied the comment into COUNT
MY TEXT! and counted our comment. Sure enough, we had gone
over that limit. SO we edited our comment in COUNT MY TEXT! and

How
to Use COUNT MY TEXT! for a social networking site (YouTube, MySpace, Eons,
Gather, etc.) entry of any kind where a character limit is imposed:

Create
your text off line, using a word processor. Spell and grammar check the work.

Copy the text from your word
processor and paste it into COUNT MY TEXT! Perform a character
count and optimize if necessary. Check the count results against what is
allowed by the social networking site limits (if specified). If you have
too much text, you can edit it directly in COUNT MY TEXT! and
re-count.

MY TEXT! and paste it into the social networking site's input text
box.

If you can, preview your submission.
Note where you might want to add some HTML or other code for bolding, italicizing,
etc.
- Return to COUNT MY
