Day Three-- The Clyde Saga, Health Returning!

Today was Clyde's best day yet!

The Vet is still keeping a guarded prognosis, but feels that Clyde, if he passes his next blood test (he has a study guide), may be able to come home tomorrow.

I went to visit Clyde this afternoon, and he was very happy to see me. He seemed to understand why he was being kept at the Vet's, and meowed excitedly in greeting when he saw me. He gave me many wet kisses. His fur is still shedding like the falling leaves of autumn, but his eyes were clear, and he was eating like his old self again. They told me that this was a very good sign, and showed that his spirit is recovering as well as his body.

They let me hold him for a while, and Clyde even got just a little frisky! It's hard to be frisky when you have an IV tube stuck in your leg, but we played a mini game of "Find the Treats" with some of his food nuggets. I put one nugget in each hand and asked Clyde to guess which hand held the "secret treasure." (Okay, this is a game he couldn't possibly lose). He was so delighted when he was right on the first guess!

It was so great to see him getting back to his old self! The Vet said that I will have to be taught how to give Clyde his fluid shots. I have to learn how to inject him, just under the skin, with a needle that will flush fluid into his body, where it will later be absorbed and prevent dehydration. This will have to be done twice a day, but if Clyde responds to the treatment, we may be able to reduce the injections to once a day and possibly once every other day. After that, it's too far away to tell.

Other good news is that, after about a week of staying in the house, I can take Clyde outside into the garden! I asked about the risk of infection but the Vet seemed to think there was no apparent danger. I can take him out on a leash (Clyde, not the Vet) but secretly, I am hoping that he won't want to go out. He does have his neighborhood kitty friends though. If only there was a way to get them to come visit him, instead of him having to go to them.

A shaman is coming over tomorrow night (if Clyde comes home) for some extra special hands-on healing. Shamanic healing is very powerful, and I am excited that Clyde will get this special treatment. What science cannot do, spirit can.

Your letters and cards and Internet flowers have been so beautiful and wonderful! Your encouragement has been such a booster in this traumatic time. Some of you have made special web pages for Clyde. I wept when I saw them. Some of you offered financial help. Gosh, that is so wonderful. Fortunately, Clyde had saved up for a super-duper 2-gig hard drive. We'll put the drive on hold and use the money for more immediate purposes. That some of you offered financial help just blows my mind. Such generosity and kindness you have shown!

I told Clyde all about what you are doing. He purred so hard that he swooned when I told him, and he winked a lot. He only winks when he is very, very happy (or sleepy, but he wasn't sleepy today.) And, as I was whispering things in his ear, he whispered something back, something about a special spirit that you all sent to him, which he calls "The Rainbow Angel". Apparently, she popped into Clyde's steel box last night when no one was looking.

There's a notice about it on Clyde's home page, but if you missed it, you can meet her by clicking here:

Meet Rainbow Angel.

Clyde insisted that I immediately put the Angel's page up so you all can go see her. He told me that he realizes that he isn't the only kitty in need of special help and devotion, and putting the Rainbow Angel on his website might help others. You'll understand when you meet her. She's very beautiful and kind. I guess he's learned something from all this!

I cannot find words to tell you how grateful we both are for your support. We had a crisis and needed help, and you all came through instantly. I am working hard on getting all your letters up onto some pages so you can all see what wonderful fans you are.

Thank you all for your continued love and support. You pulled Clyde through on this one. Only you could have done it.

Okay, the Vet helped.

Actually, I would be remiss if I didn't also tell you that the people in the pet clinic have been super. The Vet has done his very best, and all the folks there have great and wonderful hearts. They sort of figured out that Clyde and I are a team, and I think it kind of amuses them to see me come in every day and whisper in his ear and play with him. But, maybe not. I bet a lot of pet people do that with their sick animal friends.
